Q&A

Which Christian denomination(s) in 2023 still dislike(s) images?

I heard about this sect on the news, but can't remember the term. Anyone know what I mean?

Aniconism isn't the answer — because I know this noun already — but also because this faction allows their apostles to take selfies and portraits SOLELY ON A STRICTLY NECESSARY BASIS like to fulfil banking, government and travel requirements. They can take selfies for opening a bank account, applying for a credit card, driver's licence and passports.

Their worshipers can use, but are forbidden to take selfies or portraits on, social media like Instagram. They can upload pictures of anything besides their own faces.

There are certain Anabaptist groups that eschew photography for different reasons (the Amish being the more extreme end of this, whereas some Mennonites are OK with a modicum of technology). See https://www.theguardian.com/artanddesign/photography-blog/2014/sep/30/mennonites-bolivia-jordi-ruiz-cirera-photographs and https://amishamerica.com/what-do-amish-think-about-photography/

Outside of Christianity, there are (or were) certain aboriginal groups in various countries against photography for various reasons.
