Furthermore, the Catholic position is that we read the Bible is several different ways (generally four) and only the first of those is the literal. That just tells you the basic story, like Moses making a bronze snake on a rod to cure people of snake bites. Take that too literally and you'll have a c... (more) |

A: Why does the Bible include three Synoptic Gospels? The basic answer is simply because those three gospels were in universal use throughout the Church, east west and south. When we consider the actions of ecumenical councils and great synods and things, what they're doing isn't really a matter of "choosing". It's more about identifying the problem, de... (more) |

A: The idea of two reformations instead just one reformation The Other Reformation On the other hand, on the Catholic side, the Church, at the time of Luther's exit, had already been undergoing a good 1500 years worth of fairly constant reform. The first act of "reformation" seems to have been when St. Paul rebuked St. Peter over his change of habit to n... (more) |

A: What does Paul mean by "sorcery" in Galatians 5:20? From what I've read, it seems to indicate specifically contraception. I've also seen it refer to hallucinogenics, such as one might use in a mystery cult. Contraceptive Claim Contraceptive Claim Hallucinogenic Claim (more) |

A: What is a polygamist supposed to do upon converting to Roman Catholicism? This Q&A addresses the underlying Catholic principles of your query. This article addresses some of the non-Western cultural conflicts that arise when Catholicism is embraced by traditional polygamists. I'm sure it's nothing new, and the situations and beliefs were probably well understood in anci... (more) |

I concur that Peter, Paul (and Mary) are generally considered "founders" by many and Paul certainly was instrumental in taking the gospel to the Greeks. Well, even if you'd said "human founder", the answer would still be Jesus, and thus the founder would still be God! (more) |

A: What does Roman Catholic law say about a marriage that was later discovered to be invalid? Essentially this: if the marriage is invalid for any obvious reason (and you list a couple big ones), then there's no marriage and never was. Clearly, if the girl you married actually turns out to be your long lost twin sister, then the marriage is considered null because no valid marriage ever took ... (more) |

A: Does the Catholic Church teach that use of artificial contraception within marriage is a worse sin that fornication? I read the linked article and didn't see anything about Catholic teaching at all. I'm at a loss as what the so-called "success sequence" Walther proposes even is. He may be a Catholic writer, but I don't think he's actually writing a Catholic piece here. So I'm not sure how the article is connected. ... (more) |

A: Theologically speaking, how does the Roman Catholic church decide which parts of the pre-Christian bible are binding? First, this is not a matter of canon law. Canon law governs the activity of the Church as a legal entity and the powers and jurisdiction of those who have been given authority in the Church. See Code of Canon Law. I'm not a theologian, but every Christian is called on to give answer when someone ... (more) |
