This would be kind of like coming to an automotive site and asking what types of repairs can be performed on cars. Too broad to attempt to answer / summarize, and in this case, also very subjective depending on one's *a priori* assumptions (even *within* Christianity, let alone outside it in the gene... (more) |

I'm generally inclined to close this as too broad because it really touches on the entire field of hermeneutics and literary/form criticism (two entire fields), which is far too broad to summarize in an answer here. If your interest is primarily on historicity (is this fiction, mythology in an ancien... (more) |

Thanks for the question, @#54307 . I've edited it to make it on topic, as the original question was too broad/generic and would be closed as such. This is now focused on requested resources to learn more rather than asking for an overview. (more) |

There is already another site that has tried such a bifurcation, and with disastrous results in my opinion. We've thus far left this open to various Christian approaches to the biblical texts, including scholarly and critical approaches. With that said, this community is nascent and very open to feed... A good tool for seeing the modern form of documentary hypothesis broken down for texts is https://tanach.us/. Navigate to Numbers 13 in the top citation box then see. It is clearer in the XML than the web view but the colors help see which parts were likely from various sources. (more) |

Hmm, I think you may have misunderstood. I spend much of my post focusing on the connection between the Anakim and Nephilim, then discussed attribution of the various portions of the verse itself. So to be clear, yes, I do think the authors/redactors associated the Anakim with the Nephilim. I strongl... (more) |

Absolutely, hence why my conclusion is that this question is subjective. When I first started studying biblical languages, I was a big fan of so-called "literal" (what I now refer to as "wooden" to avoid the myriad of conflicting assumptions behind what is "literal") translations. However, I've found... (more) |

Weird, I am able to access https://www.mardel.com/bibletranslationguide just fine. I also was able to access it via Google Translate as a proxy ( https://www-mardel-com.translate.goog/bibletranslationguide?_x_tr_sl=auto&_x_tr_tl=en&_x_tr_hl=en-US&_x_tr_pto=wapp ) so this may be an issue specific to y... gmcgath FYI folks are not obligated to comment on why they downvote, nor is it necessarily helpful as this tends to result in debate. The voting mechanism _is_ the means of providing feedback. With that said, this post earned my _upvote_ :) (more) |

Unfortunately, many of us simply haven't made the time to answer much (self included). [I started remedying this](https://christianity.codidact.com/posts/279276/285734#answer-285734) but my time is of course limited. (more) |

This is interesting, but given the government's stance, it may be difficult to track as I'm aware that numerous Chinese missionaries operate in secrecy (both those ministering _in_ China as well as those coming _from_ China). (more) |

Closed as unclear. It could be focused as to the meaning of blood in ancient Hebrew sacrificial rites and the significance for later Christianity, but as written it's unclear and too broad. (more) |

I unfortunately don't know Latin rite (Roman Catholic) canon law (and my knowledge even of the Byzantine rite and Orthodox canons is weak, although I do intend to take a course in this soon as it's part of the program I'm enrolled in). However, you may find it helpful to consult this (fairly brief) s... (more) |

Matt, I’ve seen such popularity contest voting turn at least one site Somewhere Else into an essentially exclusively evangelical Protestant Christian site. Then questions that didn’t begin from those assumptions began being DV’d and even closed with comments about the answers being “self evident” and... (more) |

For example, by "word or expression" I assume you mean specific statements in biblical texts, but "objectively" is a bit more challenging as different Christian groups interpret stuff differently. Is there are a particular Christian tradition you belong to and/or would like to hear from to focus this... (more) |

Welcome to Christianity! Unfortunately, this question needs a bit more focus and clarity to be answerable. Do biblical texts teach that God knows the future? In general: yes (although the Son may not not know the time of the end [or didn't at one time] based on certain passages). That is answerable. ... (more) |

... which Q&A doesn't provide and comments do a poor job of, in my opinion (case in point: I had to break this into two comments to fit!). The idea of open questions where answers may come from any perspective (and whether/how answerers must state/define/qualify their perspective) is still an open di... (more) |

This is an open discussion. There are no mandates from on high here. We don't have to be like Somewhere Else. I'm still trying to wrap my head around what this site should look like, particularly on a community-focused Q&A site that doesn't have accepted answers. Perhaps discussion _is_ what this com... True, but also, what this community will look like. It doesn’t necessarily have to look like Somewhere Else at all or even share scope decisions with _either_ site (although I think some wisdom can be gleaned and learned from). (more) |

Peter, I suspect the majority of questions (and answers) will be from a non-denominational Protestant perspective (which could mean just about anything, but the authority model is generally consistent). (more) |

Peter, I’m not opposed to that, but that’s what forums are for, not Q&A sites. So I’m leery. Usually Q&A is not discussion. It’s finite answers. (more) |

The other interesting thing we have in Christianity is groups that claim to have no tradition/bias ("We just believe the Bible!"), and there is a bit of discussion about this on another community (see, e.g., https://christianity.meta.stackexchange.com/q/1438/1304). (more) |

This is great input, thanks! I definitely don't want to fall into the trap of "We have to do it the way [that other community] did it." My concern is that mainstream (evangelical Protestant) views will be upvoted and minority perspectives downvoted simply based on agreement/disagreement and popularit... (more) |
